Cleaning leather
Rain
When you got caught in the rain with your leather jacket on, it will cause spots where the raindrops hit the leather. Let the spots dry completely, then rub gently with a cloth to remove them. Do not place the leather garment near a heat source or use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process as this will cause the cracking of the leather. Let it dry on its own.
Salt spots
In winter salt is used to keep the streets from frosting. The salt water can get on leather clothing, leaving a small salt stain. Use a damp sponge or cloth to remove the salt, and let the garment dry on its own. Use leather conditioner or saddle soap to keep it supple.
If the salt stain is too stubborn to be eliminated wtih just a damp cloth, try this tip: prepare a solution of three parts vinegar and one part water. Use a cotton ball to dab the solution on the salt spots and let it dry naturally.
Ink on leather
As you might know, ink stains can be very stubborn. If there is ink on your favorite leather garment, try this cleaning trick: Dip a cotton swab into rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and dab the ink stain. Let the alcohol sit on the spot for about 20 minutes, then wipe it with a dry towel. Another solution is to buy a leather stain kit.
Oil and grease
NEVER use water when removing grease stains. It will only make the stain bigger and more stubborn. This is the right way to clean it: Blot at the oil or grease with a dry towel. When the area is drier, sprinkle some talc or cornstarch on the stain to absorb the remaining moisture. Let the absorbents sit on the stain overnight. The next day, wipe off the absorbent material and the stain should be gone or much less visible.
